Ireland Trip! Night 5 (10/25): Glasgow, SCOTLAND

(Pic from train leaving Stranraer) When we left Stranraer, We got on a train, and we had one stop where we would need to switch trains. It was here that we suffered our first casualty. As the train started to pull away from the platform, Courtney, who seconds earlier, had realized that the doors on the train had locked, got a look of panic on her face as she looked to us for help through the window. We helplessly watched from inside with our jaws dropped and as the people in the train erupted with laughter and a round of applause.
The only man that wasn't laughing at us told us that she could just get on the next train with her ticket. Well, that was good news, but we had her ticket. We had EVERYTHING. Her purse, her phone, her backpack, everything. So he suggested we get off at the next station and take the next train back and get her, and then just catch the following train to Glasgow, which would leave thirty minutes later. So we did that, and found that the next station was actually just a platform, right smack in the middle of nowhere. We talked for a little bit about what to do, there was no station, so we couldn't talk to anyone about whether we should go back or if they would allow her to get on the next train and we should just wait there and get on the next one. We really didn't wanna miss her if we went back and she got on the next one.
We decided to wait. It was stressful.

WHERE ARE YOU COURTNEY:

Thirty minutes later, we saw the train coming around the corner. As the train pulled up we looked in through the windows, hoping to see her, but with no sign of her. We took a deep breath and boarded. We found four seats, Jenny stayed with the bags while Erin went to search the front of the train and I searched the back. I walked between the carts looking through all of the seats, I got to the last one when she popped out of her seat, the biggest smile on her face.
All I could do was look at her, I couldn't even formulate a sentence. I threw my hands in the air, said, "Jesus, Courtney!" and turned around and started walking back to our seat, Courtney behind me, giggling and apologizing. When I got back to where Jenny was, she didn't notice Courtney was behind me right away, and the biggest look of worry came across her face, as Erin came back from the front of the train. As soon as they realized Courtney was walking behind me, they both threw their hands in the air and fell back in their seats. Erin looked like she could have strangled her. We were all laughing about it very soon though. As we recalled the look on Courtney's face when the train started to pull away... which was just priceless. On to Glasgow we went!

Glasgow was a hoot! We were much better organized this time around. The night before, Jenny had written directions to two hostels I had previously researched, nearest to the train station. So we took a quick glance at a map in the station and headed out into the bustling streets of Glasgow. We found our hostel almost immediately, it was downtown and right on the river. The fact that we hadn't wandered around for hours put us in great moods. We got a room and went out for a slice of pizza (our second meal of the day), and then of course sat down in the bar area in the hostel (Euro hostel, probably one of the nicer places we stayed in,) and came up with a plan for the following day. We were ready to head to the place we all had very much looked forward to being, for a long time: Galway! Galway is in western Ireland and we were all the way in mid-Scotland. So it was gonna be quite the day of travels the next day, but I'll tell you about that later. We went up to our room and got ready for the night! And by that I mean, I made a fort:

And here's the view from our room:

And here are some pictures of me and my cool friends:

That last picture is us trying to see how I would look with blonde hair. Don't worry about it. When we managed to get out of the hostel, we walked downtown to find somewhere to hang out. We found this bar called The Box that was having this open mic type of thing goin on. Oh man, this is where I fell in love like 4950235 times. Beautiful men singing beautiful songs with their beautiful voices.

After we left that place, we made friends at the bar next door! We sat and hung out with them all night. Some of the guys were so hard to understand! So one of them had to act as the translator. It was hilarious. It was a really, really fun night.

As far as that Hog's Head picture goes... if you know, you know.
And there you go.. one whole day in two posts. :)
